Life Skills, run in partnership with Live Well Kent, is a free programme of six 90 minute psychoeducational classes held at locations in Ashford, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. During the current Covid-19 pandemic classes are held via Zoom.

Based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles, it’s a form of psychology that helps you identify unhelpful thought patterns which, together with certain behaviours, serve to maintain problems rather than cure them. This is not a therapy group, so we’ll not ask you to disclose sensitive or personal material, we use case studies as examples.

You’ll learn new skills that are proven to be effective in helping you to manage or cure problematic moods and behaviour, so it’s important to commit to the full course. By the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • anxiety, depression and related problems
  • how your thinking affects your mood and behaviour
  • how negative moods and behaviours are maintained
  • how to challenge unhelpful thinking
  • how to develop and use a range of strategies to help you manage mood and behaviour

Life Skills is run by West Kent Mind on behalf of Shaw Trust, who are the Live Well Kent partner in West Kent. Your data will be shared with Shaw Trust who may contact you directly about this and other Live Well Kent services.

  • The programme is designed for adults 18+, though applicants aged 16 – 17 will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Life Skills is not suitable if you’re already receiving CBT, counselling or another psychological therapy

I can’t tell you how nice Sarah was with our life skills and what lovely people I’ve met through the six sessions. I hope I can have some more as it’s strongly needed.
