Mental Health Awareness Week 10-16 May

10-16 May is Mental Health Awareness Week! It’s an opportunity for us to talk about all aspects of mental health, and with your help, we can continue to raise awareness. During this pandemic, millions of us have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. This Mental Health Awareness Week is your chance speak out, to spread the word and make change happen.

Studies show that access to nature is crucial for our mental health, and visits to UK parks are up by 25% on pre pandemic levels.

It seems only fitting then, that this year’s theme is all about nature and the environment.

We want to help to break down the barriers and ensure that everyone is able to share in the natural world and experience the positive mental health benefits that being outdoors can bring. Try to make a habit of connecting to the nature every day, even small ways can make a big difference to your wellbeing.

Whether you’ve found a great new walking route, taken up gardening as a hobby, tended a house plant, or you’ve simply stopped in your tracks to listen to the birdsong, tag us in your posts on social media @westkentmind using the hashtags #ConnectWithNature and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and we’ll repost as many as we can.

Our mindful photography group, My Mind’s Eye, encourages participants to reconnect with the natural world around them. One of our clients, anxious about venturing outdoors, felt inspired by this sunrise and stepped outside to take a photograph.
