"We know how much our body and mind are linked. Ever had butterflies in your tummy when you are nervous or felt tight chested and found it hard to breathe when you feel anxious? Yoga allows us to create union with our mind and body. When you move, breathe and stretch in a simple, gentle yoga practice you can release and let go of not only tightness but also some of the tension we can hold in our bodies when we become chronically stressed."

To celebrate the beginning of Move for Mental Health week, we're kicking off with a thank you for a wonderful event that was hosted for the campaign.

@guyosborne25 ran the most amazing golf day at Poult Wood Golf Club and raised over £2,500 for West Kent Mind. ⛳ This is a huge amount and we're grateful to Guy and his family for all the work that they put in to make the day a success. It was wonderful and everyone who attended had a fabulous time.

Move for Mental Health is designed to encourage you to get active while raising money for West Kent Mind. Every penny and pound that you donate will help us to support people in our local community with mental health problems to get well, stay well and thrive.

Parents Supporting Parents is a family support group for parents and carers of young people in the Sevenoaks District.

Meeting once a week for 12 weeks, Parents Supporting Parents will offer a safe space for parents and carers to share experiences. Participants will gain increased confidence to talk about mental health, help young people engaging in behaviours like self-harm, and reach out at times of crisis. 

Our next 12 week programme will begin on Monday 3 June, 9.30am - 11am, and will be held at our Sevenoaks Wellbeing Centre.

With just a week until Move for Mental Health and Mental Health Awareness Week, we're counting down the days to this exciting campaign. We've had such an amazing response but there's still time to get involved.

Here are some ideas of how you can Move for Mental Health while raising money for West Kent Mind:

💙 Go for  a Wellness Walk with friends, colleagues or family and encourage everyone to donate £5. 
💙 Organise a bike ride and get people to sponsor you. 
💙 Plan a sports day for friends at your local park for a suggested donation.
💙 Show us your dance moves and arrange a sponsored danceathon with colleagues. 
💙 Do a step-challenge and collect donations for every step you take.
💙 Arrange a fun-run and ask for £5 entry per person.

By getting involved, not only will you be supporting local people with mental health problems, but you'll also be doing something positive for your mental and physical wellbeing.

In the Forest Project, West Kent Mind clients joined together to craft puppets inspired by a Russian folk tale. Their journey began in September 2023, and since then, they've carefully built jointed limbs, heads, and bodies, bringing these enchanting puppets to life.

The act of creating a puppet can be a profound journey. It allows individuals to get in touch with deep thoughts and emotions, moulding them into the puppet in their hands. During this time, the group forged a beautiful bond. There's also been support, fun and laughter along the way!
