A spotlight on the new Children and Young People Early Intervention Service

With your support, we are delighted to introduce this new service aimed at supporting young people aged 11-18 in West Kent.

Why is this service so crucial?

The statistics on children and young people in our community are deeply concerning:

  • In West Kent, nearly one-third of children and young people awaiting treatment have been on the waitlist for over 18 weeks.
  • Referrals to specialist mental health services in Kent and Medway increased by 28% following covid.
  • In West Kent, the number of children and young people awaiting mental health support is more than double that of any other area in Kent and Medway.

How does the service work?

The new Children and Young people early intervention service has been developed in collaboration with young people and their trusted adults to support those aged 11-18 experiencing anger, low mood, anxiety and stress, self-esteem, grief and loss, or loneliness.

The service includes up to seven short one-to-one sessions, starting with an assessment to identify individual needs. Together with a trained practitioner, young people will build a personalised wellbeing toolkit to help them manage their mental health moving forward.

How can you help?

Our free Children and young people early intervention service provides tailored support for children and young people, who need our help now more than ever. But, we can only provide this service with your support. That’s why we’re asking you to donate to our Big Give Christmas Challenge 3 – 10 December.
